Thinking of Home: Southern Maryland in the Summer

Upper Marlboro MD

I’ve been away from home for almost three months now (in Iceland). I’m not really homesick; I love it here. But at the same time, I miss beautiful Maryland and my beautiful family home in Southern Maryland. It’s a historic house (1809/ 1870) on a little more than three acres in a partially wooded, partially rural area not too far from Washington, D.C. Besides the quirky, old house, there’s a carriage house, a bank barn, a historic smoke house, a generator shed (from when they first got electricity on the property), a reconstructed milk cooling shed, and a few dozen free-ranging chickens.

  2. I love this house. We’ve sold our house and are looking for another and I’m always holding this one up as the measure. It probably doesn’t need to be said that we’re still renting.

What do you think?
